This weekend I had the chance to go and watch FC Barcelona’s Junior team play against CB Hospitalet. In the game there was a kid on FC Barcelona by the name of Ludde Hakanson. And this is one of the kids who I have liked most in terms of his skill set and more than anything else, his mentals. Simply put I felt like this guy could hold his own on a NY playground in terms of his mental toughness and the way he held himself on the court. But then had the decision making and skill set as good as any player I’ve seen in Europe or the States.
He showed it all. From step back threes, to excellent extra passes to open teammates, to “wow did he just dunk that easy?” fast breaks. I liked his game alot and felt like he was a man among boys in this game against other Juniors. Then I found out he’s only 15…
Here are some highlights I found online from a game in 2010…when he was 13.
This kid showed the mentals that are rare to find in a player that also has a superior skill set compared to his peers. It’s not normal that the most talented player also be the most mentally capable. When that combination works hard, success is usually the result.
